Hailey Baldwin Has Revealed The Question She Asked Her Dad About Getting Married To Justin Bieber

When Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin rekindled their romance in 2018, it didn’t take long for them to make it official. In fact, within just a few months, they had become a married couple. But when Baldwin tied the knot, there was an important question that she wanted to ask her father.

Baldwin came into the world in November of 1996 in the Arizona city of Tucson. She is the youngest daughter of Stephen Baldwin and his wife, Kennya, whose maiden name is Deodato. She has an older sister named Alaia – and comes from a famous family on both of her parents’ sides.

Believe it or not, Baldwin’s maternal grandfather is Eumir Deodato, a composer who is well-known in Brazil. And her father is one of four brothers who have all found success in Hollywood. Most famous among them is Alec Baldwin, who has starred in television shows such as 30 Rock and movies including The Departed and Malice.

Baldwin’s other uncles are William Baldwin, who starred in Flatliners, and Daniel Baldwin, known for Homicide: Life on the Street. Her father is the youngest of the brothers and got his big break in 1995’s The Usual Suspects. Five years after that, he starred in The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas.

Stephen Baldwin also acted in the television show The Young Riders. And in more recent years, he has appeared on many reality TV competitions. These include Celebrity Big Brother, Celebrity Apprentice, Celebrity Mole and I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, the latter of which he quit halfway through.

Baldwin’s father became a born-again Christian following the attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001. Since then, he has launched multiple ministries to spread his message. So it won’t come as a surprise to learn that his daughter was brought up in faith, and attended Eastern Christian School Association during part of her youth.

For the most part, however, Baldwin was educated at home. As a little girl, she was a skilled dancer and was classically trained in ballet because of this. But as she got older, the future star became more interested in modeling. And clearly, experts in the industry could also see her potential.

When Baldwin was a teenager, she landed a modeling contract with Ford Models in New York. And before long, she was booking photo shoots for magazines such as LOVE and i-D. Then, she got a major break when she starred in an advertising campaign for the clothing label French Connection.

Baldwin’s career continued to grow in the years that followed. She was photographed for prestigious fashion bible Vogue, among many other magazine covers, and even walked in fashion shows for designer Tommy Hilfiger. The successful model was also the face of yet more campaigns, including for the labels Guess and Sass & Bide.

It seems, though, that model genes run in the family. In fact, Baldwin’s cousin Ireland – the daughter of Alec and his first wife, Kim Basinger – has also forged a career in the industry. But with a contract with major agency IMG Models, a following of over 17 million on Instagram and another one million on Twitter, Baldwin has become more well-known.

Of course, it’s not just Baldwin’s modeling work and her famous last name that have helped catapult her to stardom. The celebrity is also recognized for her friendships with young supermodels of the moment, including Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid. What’s more, her relationship with Justin Bieber has ensured the spotlight is on her.

In 2009, Baldwin’s uncle Alec gave her tickets to attend the Today show, which Bieber was appearing on. The model has said that she liked the pop star and his music, although she insisted that she was never a “superfan” or “Belieber.” As she explained to Vogue magazine in February 2019, “It was never that crazed, screaming thing.”

Baldwin continued, “I didn’t think about it in any kind of way except for the fact that he was cute. Everybody had a crush on him. But for the first few years we had a weird age gap.” Nevertheless, her father and Pattie Mallette, Bieber’s mother, became friends through their Christian faith.

Bieber and Baldwin eventually connected when they both started frequenting the same Hillsong church. And they developed a close friendship – but nothing more than that. Baldwin explained to Vogue magazine that she saw the singer as her “best guy friend.” However, in December 2015, things finally did turn romantic between them.

Baldwin revealed that they were not “an exclusive couple” when asked about their relationship by E! in February 2016. And at the same time, Bieber confessed that he was afraid he would end up destroying their friendship. The pop star told GQ magazine that he didn’t want his troubled past to get in the way of a relationship.

Correctly predicting that Baldwin could be The One, Bieber said, “What if Hailey ends up being the girl I’m gonna marry, right? If I rush into anything, if I damage her, then it’s always gonna be damaged. It’s really hard to fix wounds like that. It’s so hard… I just don’t want to hurt her.”

Having been discovered by manager Scooter Braun on YouTube when he was just 13 years old, Beiber soon became a pop sensation. Born in the Canadian town of London, Ontario, in March of 1994, he released his debut album, My World 2.0, shortly after his 16th birthday. It topped the charts and the rest is history. But the star has admitted that it didn’t take long for all that fame to go to his head.

Evidently, Bieber worried that his romance with Baldwin could end in disaster. But that seems to be exactly what took place. “Negative things happened that we still need to talk about and work through,” Baldwin told Vogue magazine. “Fizzled would not be the right word – it was more like a very dramatic excommunication.”

Baldwin admitted that for a while, she and Bieber were not even on speaking terms. “There was a period where if I walked into a room, he would walk out,” she explained. Then, in June 2018, they saw each other again while attending a church conference in Miami and made up.

Before long, Baldwin and Bieber realized they were meant to be more than merely pals. “I just forgot how much I loved her and how much I missed her and how much of a positive impact she made on my life,” the singer told Vogue magazine. “I was like, ‘Holy cow, this is what I’ve been looking for.’”

Bieber had recently ended his notoriously tumultuous relationship with Selena Gomez. But once he rekindled his romance with Baldwin, it all fell into place. In just a few weeks, the singer knew that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with the model – and he asked her to marry him.

During a vacation the couple took together in the Bahamas in July 2018, Bieber proposed to Baldwin. Although it may have come as a shock to fans, he didn’t do it before asking her dad for permission. Then, he got down on one knee and popped the question when there was no one else around.

“We were alone in a house, just the two of us,” Baldwin told Vogue magazine in a video released in February 2019. “It was very special.” A few days later, Bieber announced their engagement on social media. And he admitted that he couldn’t wait to spend the rest of his life with the model.

“My heart is completely and fully yours and I will always put you first!” Bieber shared on Instagram. “You are the love of my life, Hailey Baldwin, and I wouldn’t want to spend it with anybody else. You make me so much better and we compliment each other so well!! Can’t wait for the best season of life yet!”

Bieber explained that “everything seems to make sense” since he got together with Baldwin. He added to his partner that he was “so committed to spending my life getting to know every single part of you, loving you patiently and kindly.” And while the engagement happened quickly, so, too, did the nuptials.

In September 2018, just two months after their engagement, Baldwin and Bieber were pictured at a courthouse, which is where New Yorkers obtain marriage licenses. At the time, rumors surfaced claiming that the couple had married then and there in a civil ceremony. To begin with, though, they denied the suggestion.

“I understand where the speculation is coming from, but I’m not married yet!” Baldwin shared on Twitter. However, she later deleted the tweet. And that November, just after Thanksgiving, Bieber revealed the truth – confirming to his Instagram followers that they had indeed tied the knot. The couple were now, in fact, husband and wife.

Bieber and Baldwin were the only two people at their wedding ceremony. But it seems as though they might be planning on holding a second celebration in the near future. Nevertheless, they are treating the civil service as their official nuptials – and that meant some big changes in their lives.

In November 2018, Baldwin announced that she had taken her husband’s last name and would henceforth be known as Hailey Bieber. She made the revelation by changing her name on Instagram – but it wasn’t a decision she made lightly. In fact, the star has revealed that she spoke to her father about it at length.

Because Baldwin is a well-respected moniker in Hollywood, thanks to her famous relatives, the model was unsure about changing her name to Bieber at first. “I’m very proud of my family name,” she told Bustle in February 2019. “I come from a great family with a history in [the entertainment] industry.”

However, Baldwin discussed the decision with her father before making the leap. And she revealed that he was supportive about her taking Bieber’s name. “I remember when I was going to change it, I asked my dad if he was going to be upset and he was like, ‘No! I don’t care. We love you,’” she recalled.

Then, Baldwin’s father told her that changing her name wouldn’t change who she was – or who she is related to. The actor explained to his daughter that she wouldn’t be any less a part of the family. “Everyone still knows you’re a Baldwin,” he said. And his words clearly resonated with her. “It’s true!” she agreed.

Although Baldwin was pleased to have the support of her father, that didn’t mean that she found the change seamless. In reality, the star confessed that it was a while before her new last name sank in. “It took some getting used to, for sure,” she divulged. “It’s definitely strange, it takes [some] adjusting [to].”

Indeed, marriage has been a big change for both Baldwin and Bieber. During their cover interview with Vogue magazine, they admitted that being husband and wife has involved a lot of hard work. However, they stressed that they were working through their issues and committed to making it last no matter what.

“I’m not going to sit here and lie and say it’s all a magical fantasy.” Baldwin confessed. “It’s always going to be hard. It’s a choice. You don’t feel it every single day. You don’t wake up every day saying, ‘I’m absolutely so in love and you are perfect.’ That’s not what being married is.”

However, Baldwin said that they would keep choosing each other. “There’s something beautiful about it anyway – about wanting to fight for something, commit to building with someone. We’re really young and that’s a scary aspect. We’re going to change a lot. But we’re committed to growing together and supporting each other in those changes.”

Baldwin has additionally stated that the responsibility of being a wife is daunting for her. “It’s definitely scary to be this young and be married,” she revealed on her friend Kendall Jenner’s Apple Music Beats 1 series, ZAZA World. “It’s a scary thing. But it’s also the person that I’ve literally been in love with for so many years.”

Then, Baldwin added that she hadn’t thought about being together forever until she and Bieber said “I do.” But it’s clear that the model doesn’t regret the choice that she made. And to people that think that she is too young to have tied the knot, she points out that both her parents and her sister also married young.

“I see no reason to wait. When you know it’s right, it’s right,” Baldwin told The Cut in September 2018. And she added that her family were all behind her marrying Bieber, despite the fact it was a whirlwind romance. “I think they love him more than me!” the model admitted.

Although Baldwin and Bieber are the first to admit that their marriage may not be perfect, they’re learning how to make it work. And ultimately, their love for one another makes them certain that this relationship is right. “At the end of the day, he’s my best friend,” Baldwin added to Vogue magazine. “I never get sick of him.”
